Of all the places to base yourself in Menorca, Cala Galdana might just be the most dramatic. The horseshoe bay, the white limestone cliffs dropping straight into the sea, the river Algendar winding silently through the gorge before it meets the cove — it is the kind of scenery that makes you understand immediately why people return to Menorca year after year. Cala Galdana is genuinely one of the most beautiful resorts in the western Mediterranean.
What makes it even more special is what surrounds it. Within a short drive or a manageable walk, some of the finest coves in Europe are waiting to be discovered. Macarella and Macarelleta, consistently ranked among the most beautiful beaches in the world, are fifteen minutes on foot from Cala Galdana. But further along the coast, the truly remote and untouched coves that make this stretch of southern Menorca so extraordinary are only reachable by car. Renting a car at Cala Galdana does not just add convenience to your holiday. It opens up an entirely different experience of the island.
The coves you can only reach by car
The coastline either side of Cala Galdana is protected natural park and that is precisely why it is so extraordinary. No development, no roads cutting down to the shore, just pine forests, limestone cliffs and water that shifts from turquoise to deep blue depending on the light. Cala Turqueta to the west is a near perfect circle of fine sand accessible only down a forest track — the kind of place that feels genuinely discovered rather than visited. Further along, Cala Trebalúger and Cala Fustam are among the most remote and unspoilt coves on the island, reachable only by boat or by car along rough forest tracks. Without your own transport, these places simply do not exist for you.
Heading inland from Galdana takes you to Ferreries in ten minutes, a proper working Menorcan town with a Saturday morning market that is one of the best on the island for local cheese, honey, craft goods and produce. Push west for another twenty minutes and you are in Ciutadella, Menorca's most elegant city, with its Gothic cathedral, its working harbour lined with seafood restaurants and a medieval old town that rewards an afternoon of wandering. Cala Galdana sits almost exactly halfway along the south coast, which means the entire island is within reach on a day trip.
Delivery charge for Cala Galdana
Cala Galdana is located in the southwest of Menorca, which is further from our Mahon service base than most of the island. Because of the distance involved we apply a delivery supplement of 75 euros for rentals with collection or return at Cala Galdana. This is confirmed transparently before you book with no surprises, and the journey from Mahon takes around 45 minutes. We coordinate the delivery time around your arrival at your accommodation so the handover is as smooth and straightforward as possible.
Everything else remains exactly as it would be anywhere else on the island. Your rental price includes fully comprehensive insurance with zero excess, unlimited mileage and a free additional driver as standard. We accept cash with no credit card and no deposit required. We are a Menorcan family business with over 30 years of experience and we know the area around Cala Galdana well. Ask us about the best time to visit Macarella, which forest tracks are driveable in a standard car, or where to find the quietest spots on the south coast and we will give you an honest answer.
What to explore by car from Cala Galdana
Macarella and Macarelleta
Fifteen minutes on foot or five by car. Two of the most photographed coves in the Mediterranean, with white cliffs, pine trees and water so clear it barely looks real.
Cala Turqueta
A near perfect circular cove accessible only down a forest track to the west of Galdana. Fine sand, ancient juniper trees and the kind of quiet that is genuinely hard to find in August.
Cala Mitjana
Ten minutes on foot from Cala Galdana or reachable by car along a rural track. Smaller and more sheltered than Macarella and usually noticeably quieter even in peak season.
Ferreries
Ten minutes inland by car. A genuine working Menorcan town with a brilliant Saturday market. Local cheese, honey, leather goods and fresh produce at prices you will not find near the beach.
Ciutadella
Less than thirty minutes west. Menorca's most beautiful city with a Gothic cathedral, a medieval harbour packed with seafood restaurants and an old town that deserves at least half a day.
Cala Trebalúger
One of the most remote coves on the south coast, reachable only by forest track or boat. The effort to get there is rewarded with scenery that feels completely untouched and entirely your own.
